Hello Residents, If you've been paying attention to South Hampton's Town government, you've seen a lot of the same names showing up as members of Town and School District boards and committees, year after year. This isn't a clique, no Old Boys network here. It's just who volunteers for the (mostly unpaid) jobs.
We're managing things, but we've lost some important contributors because we aren't getting any younger, others because they moved away. If you've got time for an evening meeting once or twice a month, or even on an as-needed basis, do your part: Whether it's giving back, keeping the Town keel, watching costs or another motivation, get in touch with Town Administrator Angela Racine, one of the Selectboard or one of the School Board and see what positions are open.
Another thing about the Town and our Barnard School is that a lot of small jobs have been taken care of by Town residents. From moving stuff around to small carpentry jobs, volunteer efforts have saved the Town and its taxpayers a lot of money. And we always look for a Town connection when soliciting small contracting jobs. But most of this work is done by a relatively small number of people. And they aren't getting any younger either. Please consider stepping up to help with the Town's odd jobs and handyman work? It'll help keep our costs down.
